ABSTRACT:
A 10 page research paper, which also includes a short abstract, that details the life and criminal career of Charles "Lucky" Luciano, a criminal genius who succeeded in reshaping the Mafia in the US from a "clan-based, haphazard crime organization" into a something more closely resembling a streamlined "corporation" (Rigby, 1999, p. 108). This examination of Luciano's life and career in crime focuses, first of all, on his background, but then recounts his rise to power and his influence over crime in America in the first half of the twentieth century. If there ever was an American criminal success story, it is Luciano's. He was "Horatio Alger with a gun" (Buchanan, 1998, p. 130). Bibliography lists 7 sources.
