A 5 page paper which examines Kirkland’s distinctive style and her innovative contributions to American Ballet. A brief biography is supplied; important influences during childhood and adulthood are considered; as well as a discussion of dance philosophy, i.e., what dance means to her; what she attempts to convey and accomplish through her dance; a discussion of a few of her major dance works in terms of themes, identifiable trademarks, and uniqueness; and how she changed contemporary ballet.
