ABSTRACT:
Confidentiality is a central component to the foundation of the helping professions. Without confidentiality, the client/advocate relationship is in danger of losing the developed levels of trust. However, there are many dimensions to confidentiality and among those is inter-professional discussions. This 2 page essay argues that in many of the positions that a social worker or other professional finds themselves, it becomes important to discuss individuals, families and circumstances that are covered by the rules of confidentiality. A number of ways to do so without breaking confidentiality are discussed.
