ABSTRACT:
This 5 page paper looks at the philosophy and practices seen at Starbucks and the way that the firm motivates its' employees. The alignment between the HR strategies and the human relations school of thought with the ideas of Mayo and Maslow is explored by looking at the remuneration package of Starbucks employees and the way they are treated. The paper then discusses the changes which would be seen if two different motivational approaches were adopted, including scientific management and McClelland's higher achievers motivational model.
