In this day and age when the process of duplication is both easy and inexpensive in Hong Kong, the motivation to purchase brand new, factory sealed computer software is not as strong as the inclination to buy an illegally pirated title. Unquestionably, the issue of pirated computer software has outgrown the stage where it was nothing more than an inconvenience to manufacturers, whose economic loss was quite negligible. The writer discusses how the end of the twentieth century finds software piracy a tremendous money-making endeavor, leaving copyright holders with little left to do but either shake their heads in despair or take the Hong Kong bootleg industry head on by fighting back.
