ABSTRACT:
This is a 3 page paper discussing the mechanics of materials as used in civil engineering. The mechanics of materials is an important area of study within the civil engineering discipline which examines the properties of materials under a variety of conditions which may be present in the field. In order for materials to be used within design, industrial and other projects, materials must be tested for their structural strength in the areas of stress, strain, fatigue and types of deformation and other aspects before being applied in any operational system.
